In this story collection, isolation takes many forms. Since his father died rescuing him, Asano fixates on the whiteness of his ashes as a symbol of purity, creating an emotional barrier between him and his darker-skinned cousin Izuru. Their bond strains under Asano's obsessive cleanliness, leaving them unable to truly connect.
